So You Want to Start a Business? What Are You Waiting For?

Why Now is the Best Time to Start a Business.

Have you been daydreaming about starting your own business? Well, what are you waiting for? There’s no time like the present! Why now you ask? I'll counter that with, why not now? For many of us older women, one of our new found luxuries is time. Many of you have only dared to dream about opening a storefront, creating the next big thing, or simply taking a hobby and monetizing it. The problem is, we all seem to be really good at getting in our own way. We're masters at throwing roadblocks up in front of ourselves, which in turn becomes, "Maybe tomorrow I'll start."

Um...no. Tomorrow isn't promised to us. If you have a desire to start a business, please, just do it.

Don't listen to the nay-sayers. You'll do enough stalling on your own. Maybe you feel like you're too old at this point. Wrong. Or maybe you feel like people will laugh at you. Who cares? Maybe you think you don't have enough capital. Money can be found. Or maybe you worry that you're not smart or educated enough. Are you kidding me? With the knowledge we accumulate as we move through our lives, this should be the least of your worries! I started a business in my home kitchen with my daughter, in an industry we had zero knowledge about and we sold it nine years later for millions. The two of us only had high school educations. I was 50 when this business took shape. And we wrangled a loan for $30,000 to do EVERYTHING! So. No more excuses sister. The time is now.

Build a business from a passion or hobby that you have. Or, take a commodity and make it better. It doesn't matter if you have a product or service, what counts is that you give it a whirl. Trust me, you'll surprise yourself. You honestly CAN do anything you set your mind to, but you just need to start.

Stop spinning those wheels and begin. I've mentored countless women and their startups. We've solved problems that they thought were insurmountable with relative ease.

The ball is in your court. You've got nothing to lose and everything to gain. And if you need a cheerleader to help you start, I'm here. But for the love of God, don't let this be one of the things you regret not doing. Even if you fall flat on your face (which you won't), you'll at least have tried and that's more than half the battle. That's winning the war.
